“B'ey” is a group show organized by the artists Alejandro De La Guerra (Nicaragua), Edgar Calel (Guatemala), Jorge De León (Guatemala) and Paulo Nazareth (Brazil). The term "B'ey" has its origin in the Kaqchikel word "kalab'ey", which means both way, and manner of doing something. In this exhibition, the artists present works centered on drawing as a direct matter for reflection. These recent creations converge and interconnect through themes and processes from their own paths, crossing physical and cultural boundaries, and using the gallery as a welcoming refuge for camping and road junctions.
We are happy to announce our participation in SP Arte - Rotas Brasileiras, with Afonso Pimenta and João Mendes from Retratistas do Morro. In its participation, GDA, a gallery founded and run by artists, will present a photographic selection of Retratistas do Morro in the figure of Afonso Pimenta and João Mendes, artists who portrayed the daily life of the community of Aglomerado da Serra, in the Belo Horizonte region, between the 1960s and 1990s.
The edition ‘Porte nº13’ [img.03] by the artist Raphael Escobar was launched during the artist’s solo exhibition with the gallery in April 2023. It is an edition of 30 objects made up of 5 different coins screwed together. As in other works in the ‘Porte’ series, Escobar uses the materiality present in drug seizures to tense the police version of these stories.
'WHAT IF' is GDA´s first group show. Organized by Maíra Dietrich, the exhibition features the participation of artists Ana Raylander Mártis dos Anjos, Felipe Abdala, Kurru Bruno, Mayana Redin, Natalie Braido and Wisrah Villefort on different levels of speculation.
We are in the second edition of the ArPa fair presenting a solo project by Maíra Dietrich. The artist proposed an installation occupation of the stand based on her work 'Personagem-curtina', which was part of her individual show CENA-SINTAXE in January of that year at GDA. Come visit us!
'Porte' [´Possession´], Raphael Escobar's first solo exhibition in 10 years. Curated by Germano Dushá is the result of a research developed by the artist since 2017 that consists of a collection of photographs published on social networks of civil and military police officers displaying seizures for drug possession. The images collected follow a specific pattern: although the seizures are justified by the possession of drugs, the publications reveal the existence of a tiny or nonexistent amount of illicit substances.
GDA is pleased to announce the new representation of artist and founding partner Carolina Cordeiro by Galatea gallery. We believe that this movement points to a growing cooperation between different market agents and the art circuit.
We are happy to announce that the artist Mayana Redin was selected for the 22nd Bienal VideoBrasil. Mayana Redin has been part of the GDA team of artists since the end of 2022, after her exhibition Cenas de Origin, in February of the same year.
The solo exhibition by Bruno Baptistelli at the Luisa Strina gallery continues until March 18. In '4,000 d.C.', the title of the show, the artist makes reference to different historical and social contexts, such as ancient Egypt and hip-hop, to investigate the uses of gold in ancestral and contemporary black cultures.
‘CENA—SINTAXE’, solo exhibition by Maíra Dietrich, brings together works that talk about the relationship between the body and language. Dietrich thinks about the incorporation of text and language not only as a subject but as a methodology, 'editing' the works in space and 'writing' a scene for the body of those who visit the exhibition.
