Maíra Dietrich
Maíra Dietrich works with language as a self-reflexive bodily phenomenon, through video, installation, performance and fiction. Her practice articulates language in relation to the body. She is interested in how the body retains, transforms and remodels language through its physiology, its imprecision and idiosyncrasy.
Textual thought structures and builds the work. In a sense, both language and the body can be broken down into their units: the body has eyes, hands, mouth, bones...; language has syllables, gestures, commas, breaths...; and both, even if dismembered, can only exist, signify and communicate as a whole. The artist is interested in dismembering and remembering this whole, mixing body units with language units.
Her work takes shape as composition and installation, culminating in a scenographic event, in an installation body, a work signifying and complementing the other, elements and units existing as a whole.
